4.7L Radiator Replacement Write Up. I thought I'd write up a few tips for the 4.7L owners who need to do a radiator replacement (sorry, no pix). I tried to follow the Haynes Repair Manual but it was totally worthless. I worked on a 2004 Grand Cherokee and bought the $80 or $90 radiator (shipped) sold on eBay.
734 Posts. #11 · Dec 16, 2013. Before you make decision, you have to diagnose problem, remove heads and oil pan if necessary. If motor needs to be replaced, it will be very easy to remove w/o heads. 4.7 motors are expensive. 01 XJ 2wd 4.0.
RE-INSTALLATION: 11) Carefully reinstall the radiator/auxiliary cooler/condenser/shroud assembly into the Jeep. a. Make sure to line up the rubber alignment dowels into the lower radiator support. 12) Reinstall the upper radiator hose and clamp at both ends. 13) Reinstall the reservoir hose to radiator filler neck.
Definitely get the 4.7. In a WJ (99-04 Grand Cherokee), they get about the same gas mileage. The 4.7 has a better trans behind it and is a lot smoother and nicer. Take care of them and they last. If you overheat them, they like to warp heads and blow head gaskets.
